12- Dreamland

DREAMLAND
Music: Javier García Vicente; Lyrics: Eric Kerns / J.G.V

Vocals: Eric Kerns; Backing vocals: Addo Kruizinga; Drums: Erik Dekker; Violin: Bea Reijs;
Electric guitars, metallofon: Janos Koolen; Bass guitar: J.G.V

Dreaming of a world where humans are another kind of beings, with no wars and no need for hate and greed. A world where children can fix the mistakes of the elders and the elders leave the children alone.

Waking up in the day by day of an average person, confronting reality after such dream is not always easy. One must realize that dreams can be helpful as motivators in life. But instead they often make us sad longing for what we don’t have.

EVERY NOW AND THEN SHE HAS THIS DREAM
A DREAM WHERE LAND IS ALWAYS GREEN
HUMBLENESS A COMMON THEME IN DREAMLAND
AND IN THE DREAM SHE IS A MAN
WHO WALKS THE LAND AND HAS NO NEED
THERES NO PLACE FOR HATE AND GREED
RESPECT FOR ALL THAT LIVES AND BREATHS IN DREAMLAND
IN THE DREAM THE CHILDREN PLAY
THEY ARE ALLOWED TO MAKE MISTAKES
THEY ARE A DIFFERENT KIND OF BEING
THE HUMANS THAT SHE HAS SEEN IN DREAMLAND

SHE WAKES UP FROM HER DREAM
LIES IN BED CONFRONTED BY (HER) REALITY
NO TIME TO CONTEMPLATE
PUTS ON HER FACE AND WALKS INTO HER HELL AGAIN
THE EMPTY FACES ON THE TRAIN
REMIND HER WHY SHE HATES THIS PLACE
GROWING BITTER IN HER CIRCUMSTANCE
LONGING TO FALL ASLEEP AND DANCE AGAIN IN DREAMLAND

SHE CAN MAKE IT REAL AND TO REALIZE: DREAMLAND

STEALING MOMENTS IN THE DAY
DREAMING ABOUT A WAY THAT SHE CAN KEEP IT REAL
CAN A SMALL COG IN THE WHEEL
HELP THIS WORLD TO HEAL AND TO REALIZE DREAMLAND
FANTASIES CAN MEND AND LIFT THE SOUL
CAN SHE BRING HER DREAMS INTO THIS WORLD
HER DREAMLAND

11- Spanish Bar

SPANISH BAR
Music: Javier García Vicente; Lyrics: Mike Williams / JGV

Vocals: Marcel Verbeek; Mandolin: Janos Koolen; Drums: Erik Dekker
Percussion: Jeroen de Rijk; Guitar, bass guitar, vocals: J.G.V

In 1999 I travelled on a sailing boat from Barcelona to Martinique. The music came to mind while crossing the Atlantic Ocean. On my return to London my friend Mike Williams wrote the lyric and the song was born.

Hola señorita, do you wanna dance with me?

Hola señorita, do you wanna dance with me?

Am I lifted by a sunny breeze?

Am I floating on a deep blue see?

The water is cool, the sun is hot

Dreaming of a Spanish Bar

She took me away in the ocean

It’s such a different world than here on land

The most amazing dusk I’ve ever seen

Our lives were moved upon the waves

Hola señorita, hola señorita

Are you with me or am I alone?

Am I somewhere I can charge my phone?

The water is cool, the sun is hot

Dreaming of a Spanish Bar

She filled me up with the notion

My life would never be the same again

Two hearts that needed each other

Whirling lovers in the wind

She took me away in the ocean

It’s such a different life than here on land

The most amazing dusk I’ve ever seen

Our lives were moved upon the waves

10- Amistad

AMISTAD
Music: Javier García Vicente; Lyrics: Amelia de Vicente / J.G.V

Vocals, guitar, bass guitar: J.G.V; Violin: Mina Homma; Mandolin: Janos Koolen;

The song is about betrayed friendship. Someone in tears with a broken heart, a project on the line and no hope for solution, you trusted a friend and it has gone terribly wrong.
Writing a song and create something out of pain, to lift the soul.

Pasa y cuéntale a tu amigo tu mentira y tu verdad.

Pasa y cuéntale a tu amigo

Saxophone: Pieter van Houte; Electric guitar: Janos Koolen;
Drums: Pim Huitink; Percussion: Jeroen de Rijk;
Vocals, acoustic guitar, bass guitar: J.G.V

“They were right, those who said love is not enough to overcome the problems and the phases, partner”

Relationships are always tricky. Especially long ones go through phases and challenges with time. Why argue or be angry, it’s such short life after all!
If you can choose to be with someone: make it work, it’ll be worthy.

Si me dan a elegir yo quisiera disfrutarla junto a ti, compañera

GIRL I WANT TO DEDICATE A SONG TO YOU

FOR ALL THIS YEARS TOGETHER

POR WHAT LOVE BROUGHT US

WE MET AT A GIG

YOU HAD A TRISKEL AROUND YOUR NECK

LIKE ME

SOMEDAYS YOU WANT TO GO OUT

WHEN I FELL LIKE TO STAY IN

SOMETHINGS MAKES US SMILE

AND OTHERS MAKES US CRY

BUT FIVETEEN SPRINGS HAD PASSED

AND I’M STILL MOORED IN THE BEACH

OF YOUR SKIN

THEY WERE RIGHT

THOSE WHO SAY LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH

TO OVERCOME THE PROBLEMS AND THE PHASES

COMPANION

I LOOK MYSELF IN THE MIRROR

AND SEE YOUR REFLECTION WITHOUT WANTING TO KNOW

THAT LAST NIGHT  I WAS ABSENT FROM YOUR BED

AGAIN

BUT AT DAWN (SUNRISE)

I SNEAK TENDERLY IN BED NEXT TO YOU

THEY WERE RIGHT

THOSE WHO SAY LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH

TO OVERCOME THE PROBLEMS AND THE PHASES

COMPANION

SO MANY THINGS TO PUT UP WITH

IT’S NORTH TO ARGUE ABOUT, TO SHOUT ABOUT

LIFE IS TOO SHORT

IF I COULD CHOOSE

I’D LIKE TO ENJOY IT NEXT TO YOU

COMPANION

ALL THAT IS STILL AHEAD OF US

COMPANION

8- Aan de Rijn

AAN DE RIJN
Music: Javier García Vicente; Lyrics: Theo Oerlemans

Vocals: Caroline Lobanov; Violin: Bea Reijs; Mandolin: Janos Koolen; Guitar, bass: J.G.V

The Rhine runs across six countries of Europe and when arrives in The Netherlands it divides into three rivers. I often visit the Rhine rivers to greet its waters. In Utrecht, I sat by the Leidsche Rijn, in Wijk bij Duurstede by the sluices where the Nederrijn changes into the Lek. In Wageningen too I sit by the Nederrijn to play guitar and to contemplate. I find my peace near the water. Many songs came to mind while sitting by the river Rhine.

Water,
een oud stukje stad
kruist nu al zo vaak m’n pad
‘k vind er altijd wel een plek
maar heb sinds lang, m’n vaste stek

Hier voel ik mij pas bevrijd
soms ga ’k dan terug in de tijd
jij, een rivier ongeremd
nog niet door mensen getemd

Vogels het is een gefluit
eenden die snateren luid
pak m’n gitaar, maak mijn eigen muziek
zo feeëriek

’t leven heb jij hier gebracht
je water vult elke gracht
nu, ben je dan ongewild
 lijdzaam in rust en verstild

Ik zie in de verte de brug
wil eigenlijk nog niet terug
voel me versmelten in dit schilderij
’t gaat voorbij

Water, de molen weerkaatst
zonlicht vandaag voor het laatst
afscheid van jou ik doet pijn
maar het was fijn
Om hier te zijn
hier aan de rijn
kom neem me mee met jouw stroom
 lieve Rijn

7- Resurrection

RESURRECTION
Music & Lyrics: Javier García Vicente

Drums: Pim Huitink; Keyboards: Jerome van Rossum; Electric guitar: Janos Koolen;
Vocals, Guitar, bass: J.G.V

This song describes two very personal stories. The first one is about choices in life.
“Is not the way that you want but what you want on the way”.

The second is a real story that happened to me. More than 30 years ago in Madrid, someone told my high-school friends that I had died by heroin overdose. In reality, I moved from to Alicante and started my life as a musician. Now, decades later, we reconnected and laugh over my resurrection.

I walked down many streets
Oh yes it happened to me

Caught some bumps on the road
and that’s the way I learned

Sometimes I can hear the end
knocking on the front door

But let me tell you my friend, oh no
that’s not the way I should go

This is the time when I face my crime
This is the place to start over again

This is the sound that will make a spark
I shall live
Resurrection

I went away for some time
Some people took me for dead

The trip was bound to be long
‘cause I was tied to my bed

Not until I took my time could I understand

It’s not the way that you want
is what you want on the way

This is the time when I face my crime
This is the place to start over again

This is the sound that will make a spark
 I shall live
Resurrection

I walked through many streets
Oh yes it happened to me

So now I’ve nothing to fear
‘cause I was born to be free

6- So Stupid, So Foolish

SO STUPID, SO FOOLISH
Music: Javier Garcia Vicente; Lyrics: Eric Kerns / J.G.V

Vocals: Eric Kerns; Flugelhorn: Ben de Vries; Drums: Pim Huitink; Electric guitar: Janos Koolen; Percussion: Jeroen de Rijk; Backing vocals: Christiana Bairaktari; Acoustic guitar, bass guitar: J.G.V

In 2011 a nuclear plant in Fukushima, Japan got fatally damaged by a tsunami wave of 13 meters which overwhelmed the 10 meter plant’s seawall. It created the biggest nuclear disaster ever on our planet Earth. “How can we be so stupid” to build a nuclear plant so close to the sea, in a tsunami prone area, with the sole protection of a 10-meter wall? As a consequence our children and their children will be living in radioactive waste for hundreds of years.

In October 2008, following the bankruptcies of Lehman Brothers and Washington Mutual, The Dow Jones Industrial Average falls 777.68 points. Is the biggest financial collapse in the history of Wall Street.“How can we be so foolish” to trust the bankers again and again? Yet again we are naive to beg the solution from the people who created the problem.

I don’t know why humans can be so dumb

Making the same mistakes, again and again

We should’ve known
the risk of playing too close to the edge

Remember what mama said:
you’re bound to stumble and fall

Some people find it hard to sleep

Others pray for their soul to keep

Buring their heads in the sand
while filling their pockets at the bank

So stupid
How can we live in a world run by greedy men?

So foolish
Selling out our children’s lives again and again

How can we be so stupid to let them win
how can we be so foolish

I don’t know why humans can be so dumb

Making the same mistakes, again and again

I don’t know how
people can turn a blind eye for profit

They build empires on the backs of the poor

Just to have a little more

So stupid
How can we live in a world run by greedy men?

So foolish
Selling out our children’s lives again and again

How can we be so stupid to let them win?

How can we live in a world run by greedy men?

So foolish
Selling out our children lives again and again

Stupid
How can we be so stupid to let them win?

How could we be so foolish to let them win?

How can we be so stupid
so foolish?
